The Library Museum of the University of Kelaniya was initiated in 2019 to coincide with its 60th anniversary. It became the first museum to reflect the history of a higher education institution in Sri Lanka. Its collection provides information on key periods in the university's life from Vidyalankara Pirivena to the University of Kelaniya, and information on distinguished graduates including eminent scientists and politicians. This university history museum provides rich resources on the history of the university from past to present. It not only provides an overview of the history of the University of Kelaniya but also helps to intrigue visitors, for example by periodically presenting various themed exhibitions as well as extensive facilities for conducting research, including rare books and loa leaf manuscripts owned by the University Library. Moreover, it is intended to have a souvenir shop where visitors can relax and buy something to remember their visit.
The museum reveals to visitors how the rich natural environment of Vidyalankara Pirivena has changed over time at the University of Kelaniya. The local education pattern of the past provides an insight into how the university has internationalized and resources have been utilized by joining the mainstream of higher education in the country. Don't miss your museum. The objects in this space are eagerly waiting to share with you the story of the history and experiences of the university that you have studied or loved.
