About Arts Gallery

Kelaniya University Library Art Gallery is a part of the historical journey from Vidyalankara Pirivena to Kelaniya University that shows its cultural characteristics. It is located in the University Library. It was started with the aim of spreading and preserving the knowledge of the University's history. All these artistic artefacts have been created by the artists of the university. Apart from conducting art workshops related to the university’s history, many interesting activities such as developing and launching art books and media production etc. are held to spread our beautiful authentic Sri Lankan arts and contemporary art with a special focus on the University of Kelaniya history and the educational history in a broader concept. The University of Kelaniya Library Arts Gallery also functions as a Centre for arts and culture, research and information dissemination outlet on the arts. It also provides platforms for inter-generational and interdisciplinary dialogues. The art gallery further hopes to promote an active relationship between the university community and the local art communities of those who are interested in educational history in the country.
