Book borrowing rules and overdue charges

  • It is required to produce library tickets along with the Identity Card / University Record Book at the time of check-out of library materials.
  • Borrowers are responsible for the prompt return of all materials borrowed in good condition.
  • It is the responsibility of the library user to check for any damage to library materials such as torn out pages, defacing etc. and to get an endorsement from the Library staff at the issuing counter to that effect in the library material concerned. In the absence of such a report, the library materials will be presumed to have been in good condition when loaned, and the borrower will be held responsible and fined for any damage observed at the time library materials are returned.
  • All checked out materials have to be produced for inspection by security officers at the main entrance.
  • All books with a PR spine label are not available on loan. However, books with SR spine label may be checked out for outside use. Such books will be issued from 1.30 p.m. and to be returned before 12.30 p.m. the following day of library opening. Weekends and public holidays are exempt from this rule. Overdue charges will be imposed on late returns.
  • Books taken from the Lending Section may be used for two weeks.
  • Students may borrow CD-ROMs from the Multimedia Section by producing their student ID and library ticket, and the CDs borrowed have to be returned along with the relevant book.
  • Permanent reference books (PR), past examination papers and periodicals will be issued for photocopying only. Library materials held at the Rare Books Section are only available for reference.
  • It is the responsibility of the borrower to protect library materials borrowed from the Library. Any loss of library materials has to be reported immediately. In such situations, a copy of the same edition or a later edition of the title lost can be produced as replacement or the fee charged by the Library has to be paid by the borrower.
